Assessments

Mott MacDonald has a strong and successful track record undertaking bridge assessments. Our expert teams complete the standard tasks of an assessment project such as: Railway bridge assessmentBridge assessment

  • Preparing the Form AA (approval in principle),
  • Undertaking the assessment calculation

We work closely with the client in partnership to understand the client’s requirements, prioritise their asset assessment programme and bring efficiency to the project using generic studies and other concepts. Under any stage of assessment (level 1 or level 2) we undertake primary activities such as:

  • Reviewing inspection findings
  • Discussing requirements for further assessment with the client for level 2 assessment
  • Preparing and issuing Form AA
  • Undertaking assessments and checks
  • Preparing and issuing an assessment report including Form BA
Engineering principles and the requirements of various standards are fully recognised in the assessment process. In support of our assessments, we have a wealth of experience with the use of complex analytical techniques such as:
  • Finite element analysis
  • Dynamic analysis using both commercially available and bespoke in-house software
  • Non-linear analysis
  • Generic studies
A strict quality management system is adopted ensuring that the assessment, checking, review and approval are carried out in accordance with the established methodology in the approval in principle document, plus other related project documents.
