Mott MacDonald is renowned as a world leader in
mass transit railways. This is reflected in our commission for the
design of viaducts for systems such as the Singapore Mass Rapid
Transit and our extensive involvement in the Taiwan High Speed Rail
project. The Tsing Ma Bridge, designed and supervised by our bridge
engineers, is the world’s longest suspension
bridge designed to carry a mass transit railway.
Independent design checking work is regularly undertaken for UK
railway authorities. This has included checking for bridge
replacement and widening schemes on the Channel Tunnel route
between the coast and London. Our portfolio includes the
independent design checking of all aspects of the Waterloo
International Terminal itself as well as the approach
viaducts.
Notable metro and light rail systems where we have been responsible
for the structures include:
- Singapore Metro – viaduct designs
- KL Monorail – independent check
- Seattle light rail
- Jakarta Monorail
- Jakarta LRT (light rapid transit)
- Tsing Ma Bridge – design of trackform
- Bangkok Skytrain – design for extensions
Seattle Light Rail, USAIn addition to
designing and checking elevated metro structures, we regularly
carry out rail bridge inspection and load assessment for our UK
clients including:
- London Underground Limited
- Network Rail
- County Councils
- London Boroughs
